Proctology is a speciality of gastroenterology concerned with diseases of the anus and rectum. The proctologist is the specialist in this field; he or she may be a gastroenterologist or digestive surgeon.
The proctological examination consists of an interview focusing on the pathology of the anal and rectal region.
