Anaesthesia

Anaesthesia is a set of techniques used to carry out a surgical, obstetrical or medical procedure by eliminating or reducing pain.

There are two main types of anaesthesia:

  • General anaesthesia: a sleep-like state produced by the injection of drugs using an appropriate device.
  • Locoregional anaesthesia: allows you to fall asleep only in the part of your body where the operation will take place (spinal anaesthesia and epidural anaesthesia are two particular forms of locoregional anaesthesia).

All anaesthesia (whether performed for an urgent procedure or not) requires a consultation several days before the date of your operation (at least 48 hours before).

Clinique de l'Essonne has an anaesthesia unit staffed by seven anaesthetists. One of the anaesthetists will welcome you for a consultation, during which you will be able to ask any questions you may have.

In order to best prepare for your visit with the anaesthetist, please remember to :

  • Read and complete in advance the various documents in the pre-admission file given to you after your consultation with the surgeon;
  • bring any recent medical documents in your possession, as well as your prescriptions.

Anaesthetic consultation

This is located on the ground floor of the Clinique de l'Essonne, in the wing opposite the main reception. From the visitors' car park, you enter the anaesthesia consultation via the end on the right of the main building.
